No cracks in DMK alliance: Manickam Tagore
Chennai, May 25:
Rubbishing speculations about cracks in the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance, senior DMK leader Manickam Tagore on Tuesday said there was no truth in such talk.
DMK-led alliance is intact: Manickam Tagore
The former Tamil Nadu minister said the alliance partners were united and would face the upcoming bypolls and the 2024 Lok Sabha polls together. "There is no truth in the rumors about cracks in the alliance. The DMK-led alliance is intact and will continue to work together," he told reporters here.
Tagore's statement comes amid reports that the Congress, a key ally of the DMK, was unhappy with the seat-sharing arrangement for the bypolls to the Erode East Assembly constituency, scheduled for June 23.
The Congress has been demanding two seats in the bypolls, but the DMK has reportedly offered only one seat to its ally. Tagore, however, dismissed the reports, saying there was no dispute over seat-sharing. "We are in talks with the Congress and other allies, and we will soon announce the seat-sharing arrangement," he said.
The DMK-led alliance comprises several parties, including the Congress, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK), the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), and the Kongunadu Makkal Desiya Katchi (KMDK).
