Early Life and Career

Sunita Lyn Williams is an American astronaut who has logged over 322 days in space. Born in Euclid, Ohio, on September 19, 1965, she is the second woman of Indian descent to travel to space. Williams holds the record for the longest spacewalk by a woman at 50 hours and 40 minutes. She is also the first person to run a marathon in space.

NASA Career

Williams was selected by NASA in 1998. From 2003 to 2004, she served as a flight engineer and science officer on the International Space Station (ISS) during Expedition 14. She performed three spacewalks during her time on the ISS. In 2007, she returned to the ISS as the commander of Expedition 15. During this mission, she performed another four spacewalks.
