Max Johnson, North Carolina Quarterback Injured All Season, To Return Next Season
Quarterback Returns to Tar Heels
After a season-ending injury, North Carolina Tar Heels quarterback Max Johnson will return for another season, according to reports from The Athletic.
Johnson, a transfer from LSU, started four games for the Tar Heels in 2022 after redshirting in 2021. He completed 63.5% of his passes for 1,159 yards, with nine touchdowns and five interceptions.
Injury and Recovery
Johnson suffered a broken hand in the Tar Heels' loss to Georgia State on September 24th. He underwent surgery and missed the rest of the season.
Johnson has been rehabbing his hand and is expected to make a full recovery.
Impact on Tar Heels
Johnson's return is a major boost for the Tar Heels, who struggled at quarterback this season.
Sam Howell transferred to West Virginia after the 2021 season, and Drake Maye struggled as a redshirt freshman in 2022.
What's Next
Johnson is expected to compete with Maye for the starting quarterback job in 2023.
The Tar Heels will open the 2023 season on September 2nd at home against the Florida A&M Rattlers.
