England set to make wholesale changes for Republic of Ireland friendly

Gareth Southgate is set to make significant changes to his England team for Thursday's friendly against the Republic of Ireland.

Manchester City's Jack Grealish and Chelsea's Levi Colwill are both in line to make their first starts for the Three Lions, while there could also be recalls for the likes of Conor Coady and James Ward-Prowse.

Southgate is expected to make as many as nine changes to the team that beat Germany 3-3 on Monday night, with the likes of Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling and Bukayo Saka all set to be rested.

Grealish has been in impressive form for City this season, scoring six goals and providing four assists in all competitions. The 27-year-old has been capped six times by England, but has yet to start a game.

Colwill, meanwhile, has been one of the standout performers in the Premier League this season, helping Chelsea to keep seven clean sheets in his 12 appearances.
