Why Fraser-McGurk doesn’t plan on changing his game despite criticism
While preparing for the upcoming season, Coleman (2022) explains that Fraser-McGurk has made it clear he doesn’t plan on changing his play style despite criticism. McGurk has had a very successful season, winning the Giants' best and fairest, and making his debut for the AFL team at the age of 22. However, according to Coleman (2022) he has faced criticism for turning the ball over too often by foot and making poor decisions.
McGurk attributes his mistakes to being too eager to make an impact in games, stating “I probably try to do a little bit too much at times and I turn the footy over, but I'm working on that.” He also adds that he’s going to focus on his strengths and continue to improve on his weaker areas.
Despite the criticism, McGurk remains confident in his ability to succeed at the highest level. He said, “I'm still learning and I'm still developing, but I'm confident that I can be a good player in the AFL.”
The Giants are also confident in McGurk’s ability. According to Coleman (2022), GWS Giants coach Leon Cameron said, “We think Fraser's got a really good future. He's a talented player who's still learning his craft.”
McGurk will have the opportunity to prove himself in the upcoming season. He is expected to play a key role in the Giants' midfield. If he can continue to improve and reduce his turnovers, he could be one of the most exciting players in the AFL.
It will be interesting to see how McGurk performs in the upcoming season. If he can live up to the hype, he could be a star in the AFL. However, if he continues to make mistakes, he could find himself out of the team. Only time will tell what the future holds for McGurk.
