CJI DY Chandrachud Breaks Down During Farewell Ceremony: 'If I Have Unknowingly Hurt...'
Supreme Court Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, became emotional during his farewell ceremony on November 10, 2023.
Justice Chandrachud, who is set to retire on November 11, 2023, expressed his gratitude to his colleagues, staff, and the legal fraternity for their support during his tenure.
CJI Chandrachud's Farewell Speech
In his farewell speech, Justice Chandrachud said, "If I have unknowingly hurt the sentiments of any individual or institution, I humbly apologize. I have always strived to act with fairness and impartiality."
He added, "I am deeply indebted to my colleagues and staff for their unwavering support and dedication. Without them, I would not have been able to discharge my duties effectively."
Justice Chandrachud also thanked the legal fraternity for their cooperation and constructive criticism, which he said helped him grow as a judge.
CJI Chandrachud's Legacy
During his tenure as CJI, Justice Chandrachud presided over several landmark cases, including the Ayodhya land dispute case and the Sabarimala temple entry case.
He is known for his progressive views on social justice and human rights. He has also been a strong advocate for judicial reforms and access to justice for all.
Farewell Ceremony
The farewell ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju.
Justice Chandrachud will be succeeded by Justice UU Lalit as the next CJI on November 11, 2023.
