Shiv Sena's absence from the event
The Chief Justice of India, Dhananjaya Yeshwant Chandrachud, addressed the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on Thursday, January 12, 2023 and paid tribute to the late Bal Thackeray.
Established in 1966 by Bal Thackeray, Shiv Sena is a right-wing political party based in Maharashtra, India. It is currently led by Uddhav Thackeray, the son of Bal Thackeray. The party has a strong presence in the state, particularly in the Mumbai metropolitan region.
Shiv Sena members were notably absent from the event, which was attended by members of the ruling Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). NCP and BJP currently form the Maha Vikas Aghadi government.
Chandrachud's address
In his address, Chandrachud spoke about the importance of the rule of law and the role of the judiciary in upholding it.
He emphasized the need for an independent and impartial judiciary, and said that judges must be free from any kind of influence or pressure.

Response from Shiv Sena
Shiv Sena has not yet commented on its absence from the event.
However, some party leaders have expressed their unhappiness with Chandrachud's address.
One leader, Sanjay Raut, said that Chandrachud's speech was "political" and that he had "crossed the limits" of his position.
