Chief Justice of India: Dhananjaya Yeshwant Chandrachud
Early Life and Education
Born on 11 November, 1959, Justice Dhananjaya Yeshwant Chandrachud is the son of India's longest-serving Chief Justice, Y. V. Chandrachud.
Justice Chandrachud graduated with an LL.B. degree from the University of Delhi, and an LL.M. and S.J.D degrees from Harvard Law School.
Career
Justice Chandrachud began his legal career as an Advocate in the Supreme Court of India in 1983.
He was appointed as a judge of the Bombay High Court in 2000, and later became the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court in 2013.
In 2016, Justice Chandrachud was elevated to the Supreme Court of India, becoming the Chief Justice on 9 November, 2022.
Major Contributions
Justice Chandrachud has authored several landmark judgments, including those on the right to privacy, the right to vote, and the right to food.
He is also known for his progressive views on social issues, such as his support for same-sex marriage and his opposition to the criminalization of homosexuality.

Justice Chandrachud is married to Kalyani Chandrachud, a lawyer. The couple has two children.
