Carolina Insider: Week One Thoughts, Max Johnson Injury, Darcy McFarlane

Week One Thoughts

The Tar Heels started their season with a convincing 56-24 win over Florida A&M. While the competition level was not the highest, there were still some encouraging signs from the Tar Heels.

The offense looked much more efficient under new offensive coordinator Phil Longo. The Tar Heels were able to move the ball up and down the field with ease, and they scored touchdowns on their first four possessions.

The defense also played well, holding Florida A&M to just 24 points. The Tar Heels were able to generate pressure on the quarterback and force several turnovers.

Max Johnson Injury

One of the biggest concerns for the Tar Heels coming into the season was the health of quarterback Max Johnson. Johnson missed the first game of the season with a hand injury, and his status for this week's game against Appalachian State is still up in the air.

If Johnson is unable to play, the Tar Heels will turn to either Jacolby Criswell or Drake Maye at quarterback.

Darcy McFarlane

One of the breakout stars of the Tar Heels' win over Florida A&M was wide receiver Darcy McFarlane. McFarlane caught five passes for 104 yards and a touchdown.

McFarlane is a big target at 6'3", and he has the speed to stretch the field. He could be a major weapon for the Tar Heels this season.
