As A Kashmiri...": Sajad Lone Joins Fight In House To Shield Kashmir MLA
Lone Opposes Centre's Move To Dilute Powers Of Anti-Corruption Bureau
Lone Protests Centre's Move To Dilute Powers Of Anti-Corruption Bureau
Srinagar, March 08: Peoples Conference president Sajad Lone on Tuesday spoke strongly in the Lok Sabha against the Centre's move to amend a law that gives sweeping powers to the Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau to probe graft cases.
The Centre has proposed to amend the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Bill, 2013, to bring the ACB under the purview of the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC). Lone said the move was aimed at "diluting" the powers of the ACB, which has been investigating high-profile cases in the State.
Lone said the ACB was an "independent agency" that had been doing a "good job" in fighting corruption in the State. He said bringing the ACB under the CVC would "hamper" its investigations and "dilute" its powers.
Lone urged the Government to reconsider its decision to amend the law. He said the move would "undermine" the fight against corruption in the State.
The Centre's move to amend the law has been criticised by various political parties in the State. The National Conference, the PDP, and the Congress have all opposed the move.
The ACB was set up in 2006 to investigate corruption cases in the State. The ACB has been investigating high-profile cases involving politicians, bureaucrats, and businessmen.
The CVC is a statutory body that oversees the functioning of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and other anti-corruption agencies in the country.
